...in which I take a bunch of completely random* words from the dictionary for your vocabulary learning entertainment.

coriace	adjective
gamme	nom féminin
hanter	verbe

 What do they mean? 

coriace	tough. (in texture or in character) difficult to beat; resilient; stubborn.
une gamme	series of things; range; a musical scale.
hanter	to haunt. (like, ghosts and such.) Also, you could haunt your favourite location.
une mine	1.      Mine (as in a coal mine) 2.      Lead(Actually graphite) (as in the lead in my pencil) 3.      Mine (as in the mine I stepped on exploded) 4.      A look, an expression on one’s face. (Hah! weren’t expecting that were you?!)
pleurer	to cry, to wine, to lament. to shed tears
une pose	a pose! Like when you stand on your head, or pose for a photo.

-          Oh! Comme tu as mauvaise mine! Pourquoi pleurs-tu?

-          On m’a vendu une gamme de mines de crayon qui cassent trop facilement. Je n’arrive pas à les revendre. Ça me hante depuis la semaine dernière.

-          Quel problème coriace. Fais-moi une belle pose, je te prendrai en photo pour mettre une annonce dans le journal.

Our words today are:

achever	verbe
concentré	nom masculin, participe passé, adjectif
ébriété	nom féminin
facile	adjectif
indécent	adjectif
passant	nom masculin, participe présent

What do they mean? 

It’s a tough one today; some of these words have different meanings depending on usage. Please pay attention to the multiple definitions.

achever	to finish a project, to conclude something. Often used in the imperative (achève!) to tell someone to “get to the point!” when talking.
concentré	a concentrate(noun), concentrated(past tense verb) concentrated(adjective)
ébriété	intoxication (state of). A formal way to refer to drunkeness
facile	easy
indécent	indecent
passant	a passerby(noun), passing(verb). “En passant” is an expression meaning “by the way”. Literally “in passing”.

Hier, j’ai vu un homme en état d’ébriété harceler un passant. C’est facile d’être indécent de nos jours. On nous offre des concentrés d’alcool qui vont vite nous achever!  En passant, j’ai concentré très fort et j’ai trouvé la solution qui me permettra d’achever mon garage.

Our words today are:

baisser	verbe
coincer	verbe
enceinte	adjective
terre	nom féminin
triste	adjectif

What do they mean? 

 

baisser	To lower something. Not to be confused with "baiser", which is something else and may lead to undesired results.
coincer	to jam something, or if applied to oneself, to be stuck.
enceinte	pregnant, see “baiser”.
terre	the earth, soil, the ground, depending on usage.
triste	sad

L'autre jour, ma femme enceinte est restée coincée dans la fenêtre. Je suis triste d'annoncer que je ne blague pas. Elle s'apprêtait à baisser les stores lorsqu'elle glissa sur un jouet que notre fils avait laissé par terre. Les pompiers sont venus la sauver deux heures plus tard.

 Today's challenge:

1. Conjugate the verb "baisser" in the present tense. 
2. Write a few sentences using all of today's words at least once. 

*I don't actually have any idea how l'internaute chooses their words of the day. For all I know they spend hours and hours fighting over this in a science lab over large bowls of nachos and a few beers. The beers are my only explanation to this particular choice of words.
